Vision: Global Printing Equipment was interested in building an online marketplace that would connect buyers looking to sell their commercial printing equipment to interested buyers.

Problem: While Global Printing Equipment had an initial site structure in place already, they didn't have the resources or necessary experience to produce a secure, user-friendly website in the time-frame required.

Solution: Ethix Systems transformed their website into a fast-loading, modernized web-portal that allows sellers to visually list their equipment with a fully functional image upload utility and allows buyers to easily search and bid on the equipment they are interested in. Online credit card processing was also fully integrated into this site to reduce administrative overhead.

Let's say that www.ihaveagreatproducttosell.com issues a monthly marketing newsletter to anyone who signs up using a web form on their homepage. However, Steve Hacker wants to see this site fail, so in an attempt to sabotage their business he writes a script that automatically submits the newsletter sign-up form 500,000 times using stolen email addresses. Now, the next time the company sends out a newsletter, they will be spamming these 500,000 email accounts and could end up with a hefty fine for doing so.
One popular method to prevent this type of attack from happening is to add a CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart). The most common and effective CAPTCHAs display an image with words in them, requiring users to type the letters that they see in the image into an input box. Since scripts can't easily process letters contained in an image file, each form submission now requires human interaction.
Ethix Systems can help you add a CAPTCHA to any website with PHP installed. Check out samples of two different variations of CAPTCHAs below.
